After life kicked me in the dick a heap of times over the last few years I had gotten to a terrible mental state, the lagging metric of that being my physical state had also slipped to something that I considered fucked. My positive coping mechanisms like exercise had been replaced by poor nutrition, lack of social connection, substance abuse and just being a useless fuck in general.


The story I had started to tell myself internally was that things couldn’t improve, that I wasn’t good enough, that I didn’t have the energy to start again, again.


If you’ve ever taken yourself to hell in your own mind then you know that that pit of despair doesn’t appear to have an exit.


If you’ve ever gotten out of it then you also know that you had horrific blinders on at the time and all you really needed to do was string a few good weeks together to turn the momentum around.


Nothing is ever hopeless, despite the story you are currently telling yourself.


Your ideas about the world function like a map to help you navigate your way through it, all good and well unless those narratives are no longer serving you.


You are not committed to who you used to be, if you don’t like something then change it.


If this all seems too much and you can’t escape under the weight of all the things that you want to change, then maybe you need to set lower standards. For me I think the starting point was getting up early and going for a walk, I had been gaming late at night and my sleep was all over the place.


After about a week of morning walks at a consistent time, I added in the little 5 min dailies that I have been doing since, performed halfway through said walk.


By slowly layering in more work and healthy habits week by week I’ve come way further than even I thought possible in such a short timeframe.


Do not underestimate the wildfire that can be started by lighting a small flame in the right place.


Remember too that you can smother a fire by throwing too much fuel on too fast.


Don’t get too far ahead of yourself with your progress and if you are clever and patient, you can achieve a hell of a lot in a short time and actually enjoy the process.


This is ultimately what I do. What I’ve come to find that I’m really good at, helping people untangle all of their bullshit and get into peak condition. I help people get out of their own way.


What’s magic about this is that if you get your body and mind right that will usually flow out into fixing the broader things in your life too.


I think my track record of falling off personally and turning it around helps me more than anything else in this. I’ve fucked up in almost every way you can think of, so when a client has got themselves into a specific mess, I can usually help them with a road map out.


If you’re struggling at the moment know that you are months away from a place almost unrecognizable from today.


Just because the world appears to be falling apart, it doesn’t mean things are futile, it doesn’t meant mean you have to fall apart too.
